The main objective of this course is to provide additional and advanced training in areas of chemical science (analytical chemistry, computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, instrumental methods) to chemistry graduates and graduates with a chemical background with a substantial content equivalent to third year chemistry in their previous studies. An aim of the course is for graduates to complete a course of study (subjects) upgrading and updating their earlier studies/degree. The program will culminate in a research project subject to satisfactory completion of the coursework subjects. Career opportunities - Career opportunities for graduates of this course exist in the chemical industry (petroleum based, biotechnology, chemical analysis, fine chemicals, etc). High-achieving students may proceed to study further for a PhD and apply for a La Trobe University scholarship. Expected vocational outcomes - Students will graduate with a Masters degree including coursework studies in chemistry. They will be fully qualified for employment in a wide range of science-based industries and research laboratories and be well-suited to participate in emerging industry sectors such as biotechnology, which is locally very strong.
