About this course

The Graduate Diploma in Child, Family and Community Nursing is a one-year, fulltime or two-year, part-time 120-credit point award leading to qualification to practise in maternal and child health nursing. It aims to prepare nurses and midwives for a broad community approach to nursing children and families, particularly for those who are in the prenatal to school-entry stage of the life cycle. Attendance at two 3-day clinical workshops is compulsory. Workshops are held at the Melbourne campus. Applicants must hold current unrestricted registration, as both a Registered Nurse and Midwife, with AHPRA. A minimum of two years recent clinical practice experience that encompasses both nursing and midwifery is required for admission. In order to meet the learning outcomes of the course and qualify to practice as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse in Victoria, students need to undertake a minimum of 40 days of placement.  Students are required to arrange their own placements. The course requires the completion of 120 credit points over one year of full-time study or part-time equivalent.
