About this course

Poverty is one of the world's most pressing and complex problems. With more than 700 million people (around 10 per cent of the world's population) still living in extreme poverty*, there's a growing need for skilled professionals who can navigate the development sector and create sustainable solutions to inequality.

If you're looking to create meaningful change in the world, La Trobe's Graduate Certificate in International Development will give you strong foundations to launch your career.

Learn the latest best practice and gain essential skills from industry experts who will share their experiences and knowledge. You'll explore global issues such as poverty, justice and social change, while learning how to create sustainable, positive change in areas where we need it most.

After successfully completing the Graduate Certificate in International Development, you'll be eligible for one semester of advanced standing - which means you could transfer directly into the Graduate Diploma or Master of International Development, should you decide to further your studies.

You'll learn:

  • How to design and deliver development projects
    • Understand how to work in partnership with local communities and create projects that address systemic inequality.
  • The histories, norms and dynamics of international development
    • Understand the history of international development and the challenges it now faces. Explore the meaning of development and how it's changed over time.
  • How to drive social change
    • From grassroots activism to governmental policy, you'll learn how to engage with individuals, communities and organisations to create positive change.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8 - Graduate Certificate.
