About this course

We offer practical experience in all four years of this course, producing multi-skilled graduates who play a critical role in healthcare. First year gives you a solid grounding in healthcare fundamentals through subjects such as human biosciences and public health, while also introducing you to the fundamentals of both nursing and midwifery. In second, third and fourth years, you'll study specialised subjects including Indigenous and intercultural health, postnatal care of the new family, care of newborns with complex health issues, mental health and illness. You'll also practice both nursing and midwifery in emergency and time-critical settings. Throughout this four-year course, you'll complete placements for both nursing and midwifery in a range of metropolitan, rural and interstate settings, and have the chance to study overseas. Clinical placements are a feature in every semester of this double degree, and may be undertaken at a number of our clinical partner agencies including The Alfred, Austin Health, Northern Health, Melbourne Health, The Women's and Mercy Hospital for Women. These rotations give you first-hand experience of the reality of what it's like to work as a midwife and nurse.
