The Bachelor of Education at La Trobe University is an undergraduate degree, which prepares you for a career as a primary  school teacher. The foundation year of the program allows you to build strong knowledge around professional literacy and numeracy skills with awareness of contemporary approaches to learning. In the primary sequence there is an opportunity to become a specialist primary teacher in curriculum areas such as:   arts, English, health education,  humanities, language, mathematics,  physical education, science, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). The Bachelor of Education is designed to maximise the repertoire of expertise and skills to work in complex education settings. This course is a four-year full-time program with part-time equivalence consisting of 480 credit points of core and elective subjects, delivered in the English Language. Students will be trained as primary teachers with a curriculum specialisation in one of:  arts, English, health education,  humanities, language, mathematics,  physical education, science, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). Students may elect to complete a combination of discipline subjects in a STEAM specialisation (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Students are required to undertake a minimum of 80 days of professional experience in schools and educational settings during the final three years of the degree. In the initial year students will build knowledge and skills as a strong foundation for their development as pre-service teachers. Students must pass the subjects listed below, each of which has a 15 credit point value, except where indicated. Students are also required to successfully complete the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE) prior to graduating. Students must complete a total of 480 Credit Points to graduate from this course and be eligible to register with the  Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
