Flinders University: Postgraduate Research Scholarships for Research Higher Degrees

Key details

Length of Support
2-3 years

About this scholarship

Flinders University awards postgraduate research scholarships on the basis of academic merit and research potential to enable suitably qualified applicants to undertake full-time study towards a research higher degree (Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research).

Main round scholarships - Applications open early September and close October 31 every year.

These scholarships are open to all eligible domestic (and in some instances international) applicants who intend to commence a research higher degree the following year.

BENEFITS

Each postgraduate research scholarship pays a stipend (living allowance) which is tax-free for full-time study. Under present guidelines, all postgraduate research scholarship holders enrolled in a research higher degree will be allocated a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees.

Scholarship holders are entitled to paid recreation and sick leave each year, and in some cases, paid maternity leave.
Most postgraduate research scholarships provide a thesis allowance, to assist with the cost of producing a thesis. Scholarship holders who move to Adelaide from interstate or overseas may also be eligible to claim reimbursement of travel expenses and removal costs (relocation allowance - limits apply).

TENURE

Most postgraduate research scholarships are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree by research, subject to satisfactory progress. A six-month extension may be granted to Doctorate by research students.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must:

  • be Australian citizens or New Zealand citizens (may not be eligible for some scholarships listed) or have been granted permanent resident status; or
  • be an international student who has completed an honours or equivalent qualification at an Australian University no more than three years prior to the application closing date (may not be eligible for all scholarships listed above);
  • have completed an excellent undergraduate degree;
  • have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours undergraduate degree;
