Thi Huong Thuy Doan

After graduating this course, I believe that I am confident to apply my knowledge and skill in actual work, water/wastewater treatment field.

I am Thuy, from Vietnam. I used to work in the chemical engineering field in my own country. Especially, I worked as a chemical engineer at a power station. This was an exciting and challenging job! I operated and responded to seven systems, which were relative to water quality, such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, chemical dosing, water sampling, condensate polishing, electrolyte chemical and water analysis. However, I would like to improve my engineering skill in a particular section, water and wastewater treatment. Therefore, I decided to enrol in the Master of Science: Water Quality and Treatment course at Curtin University.

I have been studying this course for 3 semesters and one more semester to graduate. I think that this is my desired course because of the following reasons:

1. The core units provide entire knowledge of water/wastewater quality and treatment processes. There are fundamental and specific academic knowledge about water/waster are provided. First of all, students are approached to water quality such as the principles of measurement, essential reagents and water analysers. Secondly, the water/wastewater treatment processes are provided to introduce and explain how these processes work and the purpose of themselves, including adsorption, coagulation, flocculation, oxidation, separation and disinfection processes. Finally, students are approached to the water/wastewater standard of Australia and internationally. In addition, this course provides many field trips to the treatment stations or catchments. There is a good opportunity to practice our theories. The treatment process is applied which depends on targeted substance removal, regional/state/country water standard, local weather and cost.

2. All my previous questions in water/wastewater treatment are mostly answered during this course. I could explain how the chemicals suppose to settle the impurities, what the best conditions for removal of the specific substance is, what chemicals should apply for each process and Which treatment process is chosen to apply in the particular condition.

After graduating this course, I believe that I am confident to apply my knowledge and skill in actual work, water/wastewater treatment field. I am going to graduate from Curtin University, which is a prestigious university in Australia. I believe that I can get a good job in the water/wastewater treatment area.
