Sachithya Wickramasooriya

I hope to find a job related to food and beverage at the end of the master's degree and use my knowledge effectively.

I'm Sachithya Wickramasooriya. I graduated from Rajarata University of Sri Lanka with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture specialising in food and postharvest technology.

I'm currently looking forward to continuing my studies by applying to the Master of Food Science and Technology at Curtin University. I had 4 years of undergraduate study prior. I studied agriculture-based subjects for about 2 1/2 years. In this 2 1/2 year period, one semester was a field course on faculty land also involving animals. After this, I selected food and postharvest technology because of my interest in food science and its importance.

During my specialising period, I studied the chemical composition of foods, postharvest physiology and nutrition. I studied food analysis, food chemistry, food preservation, food packaging, postharvest of fruits & vegetables, food post harvest technology, dairy science, food nutrition etc.

In my final semester, I did my research related to postharvest technology. My final thesis title was 'Optimising Cold Storage Temperature for Palee F1 Bitter Gourd Variety'. After the end of the degree program, I wanted to follow the master's program in food science and technology at an international university. I wanted to get experience in a new country, new culture and environment with new people.

I hope to find a job related to food and beverage at the end of the master's degree and use my knowledge effectively. I also want to enter a doctorate later to improve my career and uplift myself and people who are around me.
