Applicants should hold:

  • a Bachelors (Honours) with Class 1 or Class 2 Division 1 from Charles Sturt University; or
  • a relevant coursework Master's degree with evidence of research equivalent to a Charles Sturt University 16 point subject or greater, at a Distinction level or above; or
  • an award from another accredited tertiary institution, accepted by the University as equivalent to one of the above awards, and/or
  • have demonstrated in study or professional performance potential to undertake research at a Master degree level.

Intending applicants should contact the Sub-Dean Graduate Studies in the Faculty to discuss the proposal before applying for admission to the Master of Philosophy.

Admission to candidature is subject to approval by the University.

What you will study

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

Intensive school

You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

Course structure

Research (64 pts)

Candidates complete a major research project or portfolio in an area within the Arts and Education disciplines. As such candidates should contact the Sub-Dean Graduate Studies to discuss possible projects. In consultation with the Sub-Dean and their Principal Supervisor, each candidate will be allocated a specific research subject code and will enrol in that subject for the period of their candidature:

Standard enrolment patterns

Candidates will be enrolled in a single subject for the duration of their degree. The subject code will be determined according to the School in which students are enrolled within the Faculty of Science and aligned to the mode of study.
