Overview

Build Wiradyuri language knowledge, understanding and skills. Generate culturally-centred strategies and solutions for reclamation of Wiradyuri language within Wiradyuri communities. Develop your ability to engage Wiradyuri people in the community, grounded in Yindyamarra principles and practices to pass on Wiradyuri language by adhering to responsibilities to Wiradyuri people and Country. By studying the Charles Sturt University Graduate Certificate in Wiradyuri Language, the only course in Australia of its kind, you'll gain the ability to listen, speak and understand the deep connections to Wiradyuri Country by actively engaging in the principles of Yindyamarra.

Please note: Within our communities, both 'Wiradyuri' and 'Wiradjuri' are acceptable ways of spelling the largest First Nations country in NSW.

This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.

Entry requirements

Language Knowledge:

  • A personal statement documenting relevant professional or community expertise and/or experience. Examples of relevant professional or community knowledge and/or experience could include; professional engagement with members of the Wiradyuri people in either paid employment or in a voluntary capacity; teaching Wiradyuri language in TAFE, VET, private providers or schools; people working with, or in, the Wiradyuri community in social, support or other capacities.OR
  • Successful completion of Certificate III in Aboriginal Language or equivalent, and a personal statement documenting relevant professional or community expertise and/or experience.OR
  • A degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent).

Compulsory: Interview.

For admission to this course, all applicants are required to undergo a compulsory interview process. The interview aims to assess candidates' suitability for the program based on their academic and professional background, relevant experience, motivation, and potential contribution to the learning environment.

Compulsory: Letter from Elders.

For admission to this course, all applicants are required to provide a letter from Elders. The letter needs to indicate support from within the community, by Elders, for the applicant's engagement with the course.
