Help children develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to provide the best possible start in life. Nurture children's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Make a real difference in the lives of children you work with and teach across the full primary curriculum. You'll learn from experienced academics and develop your teaching practice throughout your degree as you step into primary classrooms.
If you want to be a Primary teacher but have previous study, such as a Cert III, IV or Diploma School-Based Education Support or some university study; you could apply for credit in the Bachelor of Educational Studies and progress to our accelerated Master of Teaching (Primary). Using this pathway you will become a qualified teacher sooner.
This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.
Applicants will be admitted to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) if prior studies are assessed as meeting the Selection Rank for the course (see below). This includes applicants who meet the selection rank but have NOT achieved three HSC Band 5's with one of those in English and at least a Band 4 in Mathematics. This requirement is met through the course design which has students studying a full first year of academic discipline studies in the subjects they will teach, including a mathematics/numeracy discipline subject. In addition, applicants must meet non-academic entry requirements.

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.
You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) consists of 27 core education subjects (216 points), one primary specialisation restricted elective subject (8 points) and four restricted elective subjects (32 points) chosen from any elective stream listed below. The four electives can be chosen from multiple streams. This course can only be studied on-line or in mixed mode - a combination of on-campus and online subjects. Initial teacher education students are required to pass both components of the personal Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) as part of the accreditation requirements of this course and before commencement of the final professional experience placement.
