Kickstart your business career with Charles Sturt's Bachelor of Business. Gain essential business skills then choose from five business majors to open up a whole world of job opportunities. Opt for a finance major, focus on HR management, hone your strategic planning skills, select the marketing major, or pursue management and leadership.

Flexible study means you can pursue your undergraduate course online or on campus, full-time or part-time. However you study, you'll join a network of industry innovators and business pros. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to gain real work experience on placements in an industry area you're interested in.

Please note: If you choose to undertake the Bachelor of Business at our Melbourne or Sydney specialty campuses, the course can only be studied on campus. No online study option is offered for this course.

This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.

Entry requirements

  • A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with minimum ATAR required (including adjustment factors) OR
  • Successful completion of at least two Bachelor degree level subjects (or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent) or higher in any discipline OR
  • A completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate III or higher, studied at a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent OR
  • A completed Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) or bridging program studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University, or equivalent OR
  • Partial completion of a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Diploma, of at least 50% from a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent OR
  • Work experience of at least two years full time equivalence duration with some elements of management or supervision demonstrated by a detailed resume OR
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) with an equivalent ranking to the currently listed ATAR.

What you will study

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

Intensive school

You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

You will have opportunities to make professional connections and build your CV as you progress through your course via professional development placements in an industry area you're interested in - anywhere across Australia or the world.

Course structure

Course information

The course consist of 24 standard subjects. Each of the employability and work placement subjects consists of a 6-point subject and is complemented with a 2-point transferable subject which forms a standard 8-point subject. Students must ensure that there are no more than 12 level one eight-point subjects in their degree (note: the combination of a BUS 6-point subject with an EMP 2-point subject equals one 8-point subject). The level of a subject is designated by the first digit in the subject code, eg ACC100 is a level one subject. Students enrolled at Charles Sturt University Sydney and Charles Sturt University Melbourne may have a limited selection of majors, minors and electives. Students enrolled at Charles Sturt University Sydney and Charles Sturt University Melbourne will complete structured work integrated learning activities as part of their program of study. The opportunity to undertake work placement may be available for students contingent on satisfactory progression and grades.

Students who wish to extend their work experience have the option to complete BUS387 Work Placement 3 as an Unrestricted Elective Subject.
