Overview

If you're currently a teacher or workplace trainer or seeking to become a teacher or workplace trainer in adult and vocational education, this course is for you. Our Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education meets the professional needs of students with vocational qualifications who want to teach in their discipline area in an adult learning environment or within their particular vocational setting.

Our course recognises the diversity of the adult and vocational education sectors, offering a number of major fields of study to allow you to focus study towards a particular field of development. Or you can select from a wide range of elective subjects to tailor study to meet your personal or professional learning goals.

The course recognises your previous vocational qualifications and professional experience by awarding a full year of entry-level credit and allows further credit if you have previously completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Completion of this course also fulfils the professional development requirements for vocational trainers and educators.

The Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education is an approved qualification for the purposes of the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2018 (MEA).

This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.

Entry requirements

Students must have a recognised vocational qualification as noted below:

  • a Certificate III as part of a completed apprenticeship leading to trade recognition and accreditation and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience; or
  • an advanced certificate (Certificate IV), associate diploma, diploma or the appropriate tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience; or
  • completion of an Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation and a minimum of three years relevant industry experience; and
  • have completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 or TAE40116) with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • be currently enrolled in a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 or TAE40116 with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • have completed a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (TAE50111 or TAE50116) with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • be currently enrolled in a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (TAE50111 or TAE50116) with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • have completed a Diploma of Training Design and Development (TAE50211 or TAE50216) with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • be currently enrolled in a Diploma of Training Design and Development (TAE50211 or TAE50216) with an accredited Registered Training Organisation; or
  • have demonstrated equivalent skills and experience in training and assessment through continued professional practice and development as evidenced by a statement of service from employing organisation/s.

NOTE:

  • Students who receive the VET02C Forward Credit (FCR) based on evidence of current enrolment and study of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 or TAE40116) or a Diploma of VET (TAE50111 or TAE50116) or a Diploma of TrngDes&Dev (TAE50211 or TAE50216) on entry must have completed the qualification and provided a copy of their Certificate/Diploma and transcript prior to enrolling in EEB312 or EPT320.
  • A Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (BSZ98) or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104 or TAE40110 or TAE40116) or a Diploma of VET (TAE50111 or TAE50116) or a Diploma of TrngDes&Dev (TAE50211 or TAE50216) do not count as a vocational qualification for entry purposes.

Completion of previous university study and/or work experience relevant to adult or vocational education that can be assessed by the Course Director as equivalent to a Certificate III as part of a completed apprenticeship leading to trade recognition and accreditation and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience.

What you will learn

What you will study

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

Intensive school

You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

Course Information

The course consists of core foundation knowledge students have developed in their prior study and work experience and is captured as VET08C credit, the Adult and Vocational Foundation subjects OR the Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Foundation subjects, and completion of a major area of study, or eight restricted electives.

Credit Package (64 pts)

Students receive VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit (64 points) on admission for completion of prior qualifications and work experience: these qualifications and work experience are the core learning for the associate degree (the first year of study).
