    Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Design requires a Bachelors degree in any field.Applicants who apply with a bachelors degree completed more than 10 years ago can be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Design where they have 5 or more years professional experience in a design or media-related field since graduation.Applicants without a Bachelors degree may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate on a case-by-case basis by the Program Director, on the basis of a Portfolio of work and professional experience.

    English language requirements

    You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

    If you're completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.

    If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • English language tests and university English courses
    • Prior study in the medium of English
    • Other qualifications

    To be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Arts you must have a minimum of five years' recent, full-time employment or professional experience in a relevant field and completed the equivalent of one of the following in a subject area related to your proposed research area:

    • bachelor's degree with first class or second class honours or, a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney with a substantial portfolio of published / professional work (such as books, films, TV programs, creative work and / or government reports) equivalent to or greater than an undergraduate honours thesis; or
    • a master's degree.

    These constitute the minimum requirements for eligibility and do not guarantee admission. This remains at the discretion of the relevant supervisors and departments. The University must certify that there are sufficient supervisory and other resources and facilities available to enable your candidature to be completed successfully.

    * With integrated compulsory twelve-week professional industry experience, training or project work of which six weeks are directly supervised by a professional/eligible professional engineer as determined by EIT.

    ** Congruent field of practice means one of the following with adequate Civil Engineering content (fields not listed below to be considered by the Dean and the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis):
