    Clinical placements

    Anyone applying for an ACN course that includes a clinical placement must provide evidence of compliance documents at the time of application.

    Applications for enrolment will not be progressed until all relevant documentation has been received by Customer Services.

    Each Australian state and territory has its own clinical placement documentation requirements. Further details are available on our Clinical Placement Information page, click on the tab for your particular state or territory for information on specific requirements.

    Individual placement providers may need additional documentation. If you are required to provide this then you will be contacted by the Clinical Placement Officer following enrolment.

    ACN negotiates with health care facilities to secure clinical placements. ACN will make every effort to secure clinical placements within the timeframe indicated in the course outline, however applicants are advised that provision and location of clinical placements is dependent on the availability of placements within the health facility.

    As placements are difficult to secure, once confirmed these cannot be negotiated unless there is unforeseen extenuating circumstances. Applicants are not to arrange their own clinical placements with a clinical facility under any circumstances. ACN reserves the right to change clinical placements if necessary.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for clinical placement

    Students can be granted recognition of prior learning (RPL) for clinical placement if:

    • you have been in employment in the area of specialty for at least six months (full time equivalent).

    Documentation that will be accepted as evidence:

    • A position description for role with a letter from your employer stating that you have been in their employment for at least six months (full time equivalent)
    • If you are your own employer then you can use your own company profile as evidence
    • A statutory declaration if you are not able to provide either of the above

    Please note there is no charge for this application of RPL and students will still have to complete the online learning units of study and the associated assessment items.

    To be eligible for admission to the Master of Social Work, a student must hold a relevant three-year degree in a related field (other than social work)* which includes at least one year of full-time studies in social sciences (studies of the individual and society) or equivalent.

    * This includes programs in human services, social sciences, behavioural sciences, counselling and psychological sciences.

    As the number of applicants may exceed the Commonwealth Supported Places available in the program, selection for admission is competitive and will be based upon past academic performance and the relevance of previously completed tertiary studies and work experience.     To be eligible for admission as a candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), an applicant must: * have a Bachelor Degree with at least a 2A Honours (AQF level 8); or * have a Masters Degree (AQF level 9) which incorporates satisfactory research preparation equivalent to at least 12 credit points; or * be enrolled as a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) candidate in the University (AQF level 9) and satisfy the Dean of Graduate Studies with evidence of the ability to complete a Doctoral Degree (Research) successfully (AQF level 10) within the enrolment period specified in the GRD Regulations; or *have a Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7) and satisfy the Dean of Graduate Research Studies with evidence of substantive and significant scholarly or professional attainments providing satisfactory research preparation the equivalent of AQF level 8 or 9.
    English Requirements

    You must meet a minimum standard in English to study at Murdoch, which for most courses can be demonstrated by providing evidence that you have completed Year 11 and 12 in Australia at any level if you are a domestic student, or through either English proficiency tests, university preparation courses, English language courses, previous tertiary study or vocational education.

    Other Requirements Some students propose to carry out research in the course of their current employment. The conditions of this kind of enrolment must be agreed by the research candidate, their employer and the Research Degrees and Scholarships Committee.
