    Domestic students Academic requirements

    You must have completed at least one of the following:

    • A recognised bachelor degree in the same or similar discipline, with merit achievement, deemed to be an average grade of B- or higher in all Level 7 courses; or
    • A professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised as being equivalent to merit achievement in a bachelor degree, or equivalent.
    And meet one of the English entry requirements;
    • University Entrance Literacy: 8 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing); or
    • Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.

    Recognition of Prior Learning
    If you've successfully completed the CFA program by passing all three levels of CFA exam, you may be granted one course exemption.

    English language requirements

    You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

    If you're completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.

    If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • English language tests and university English courses
    • Prior study in the medium of English
    • Other qualifications

    Entry Requirements

    Entry requirements
    • Completed a 3-year bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a discipline other than education with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 7.0.
    • Applicants for the Primary specialisation must demonstrate through eight units of their undergraduate degree, or other equivalent studies, adequate knowledge of one or more learning areas related to the Australian primary school curriculum. These areas are English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Languages, and Technology. This requirement for discipline studies can be met through further study that is completed from different courses at bachelor degree level or higher.
    • While not a requirement for admission, students need to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to the final supervised professional experience placement and to graduate from this degree. Students can register for the LANTITE through the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). If an applicant has achieved a 'satisfactory' result for one or more components of the LANTITE at another institution, the 'satisfactory' result can be carried across with this admission application.

    Non-academic entry requirements

    • Complete a questionnaire and provide written statements to address the key competencies of effective teachers. The criteria for selection includes capabilities such as motivation to teach, suitability for the teaching profession, learning activities and leadership responsibilities. Refer to the selection guidelines for initial teacher education courses.
    English language requirements

    You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires one or more of the following criteria: a minimum of IELTS 8.0, or equivalent, for speaking and listening, IELTS 7.0 for reading and writing, or an average band score of 7.5 across all four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

    Recognition of prior learning

    Recognition of prior learning will help you reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program. You may be eligible for up to eight units of credit/recognition of prior learning if you have completed a relevant, equivalent postgraduate level study from a recognised university or institution.
