The Graduate Certificate in Education is designed for qualified teachers and other educational professionals who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills in a specific area of education at an advanced level.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements

Students must meet the following selection requirements for entry to the Graduate Certificate of Education and the Master of Education:

A recognised Bachelor degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma of Education or Master of Teaching); OR
A four year pre-service teacher education qualification, including professional experience, equivalent to the qualifications required for Graduate teacher status in NSW. An applicant who submits evidence of other equivalent academic and professional qualifications may be permitted to enrol in the degree.

For students who wish to undertake the Educational Research specialisation in the Graduate Certificate in Education, the following additional entry requirements apply:

The achievement of at least a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 75 (or equivalent) in the most recently completed degree
Successful performance in an interview where questions will be asked about the student's interest in, and commitment to, studies in research
Availability of a suitable supervisor

As such, applicants for the Educational Research specialisation in the Graduate Certificate in Education will be required to download and send a completed Expression of Interest

form to the EDST5889 Convenor in the School of Education (jae.jung@unsw.edu.au) for approval, prior to the commencement of the regular online application process for the Graduate Certificate in Education.

Elite Athletes, Performers and Leaders (EAPL)
This program recognises achievements in the areas of sport, academia, leadership and music at an elite level. You may be eligible for up to five points.

Educational Access Scheme (EAS)
Factors such as illness, financial hardship, language difficulties or attending a particular school can mean you don't always get the best possible marks in Years 11 and 12. If one of these situations applies to you, submit an application for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) via UAC. UNSW Master of Engineering Science (Robotics) is a 2-year full-time postgraduate degree for students wanting to explore and specialise in the growing field of Robotics and automation.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements

There are two entry points into this Master of Engineering Science specialisation depending on your cognate background. This provides a structured and supportive option for students with a non-cognate background, while enabling students with cognate backgrounds earlier flexibility in their course selection. Both entry points equate to the same duration of 2 years (96 UOC), and differ only in the order and structure of core foundation courses.

Students with a cognate background:

Entry into the Master's program requires completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) or 3-year Engineering Science degree in a cognate discipline. A minimum 65% average, or its equivalent, throughout the qualifying bachelor's degree is mandatory.*

Students with a non-cognate background:

Students with a non-cognate background can enter the Master of Engineering Science via the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science/Master of Engineering Science pathway.

Entry into the pathway requires completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) or 3-year Engineering Science degree in any engineering discipline.

A minimum 65% average, or its equivalent, throughout the qualifying bachelor's degree is mandatory.*

Successful applicants will be offered entry to the Master of Engineering Science via the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science/Master of Engineering Science pathway. Students can transition to the Master of Engineering Science after passing 18 UOC of foundational courses. The total study duration is the same as the entry point for students with a cognate background (2 years/ 96 UOC). There is no separate application required for this pathway. Applicants with non-cognate backgrounds must apply for the Master of Engineering Science to be considered for this entry.

There are two entry points into this Master of Engineering Science specialisation depending on your cognate background. This provides a structured and supportive option for students with a non-cognate background, while enabling students with cognate backgrounds earlier flexibility in their course selection. Both entry points equate to the same duration of 2 years (96 UOC), and differ only in the order and structure of core foundation courses.

Students with a cognate background:

Entry into the Master's program requires completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) or 3-year Engineering Science degree in a cognate discipline. A minimum 65% average, or its equivalent, throughout the qualifying bachelor's degree is mandatory.*

Students with a non-cognate background:

Students with a non-cognate background can enter the Master of Engineering Science via the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science/Master of Engineering Science pathway.

Entry into the pathway requires completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) or 3-year Engineering Science degree in any engineering discipline.

A minimum 65% average, or its equivalent, throughout the qualifying bachelor's degree is mandatory.*

Successful applicants will be offered entry to the Master of Engineering Science via the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science/Master of Engineering Science pathway. Students can transition to the Master of Engineering Science after passing 18 UOC of foundational courses. The total study duration is the same as the entry point for students with a cognate background (2 years/ 96 UOC). There is no separate application required for this pathway. Applicants with non-cognate backgrounds must apply for the Master of Engineering Science to be considered for this entry.

Currently, there are no Commonwealth Supported Places available for the Graduate Certificate component of this pathway.

Graduate Certificate in Computing

Admissions requires the following:

After successful completion of four courses students have two options: Graduate from the Graduate Certificate; OR Prior to graduation, apply to articulate to the Graduate Diploma or Master of Information Technology with credit for the completed courses.

Students should pay careful attention when selecting their Graduate Certificate courses to ensure that they align with the requirements for the major of their preference if they intend on articulating into the Graduate Diploma or Master of Information Technology.

There are Commonwealth Supported Places available for the Graduate Certificate in Computing, if you intend on articulating into the Master of Information Technology a separate application will be required on the completion of the Graduate Certificate program.

Additional Selection Criteria

Undergraduate entry to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is open to Australian residents who are members of the Australian Defence Force and selected members of overseas Armed Forces. Trainee Officers are selected by one of the three services (Navy, Army or Airforce) in the Australian Defence Force and must also meet academic entry requirements for UNSW Canberra at ADFA. Applying for ADFA is a dual application process. As selection for the Australian Defence Force is a competitive process, which can take up to 12 months, it is preferable that you apply to Defence Force Recruiting in Year 11. Adjustment Factors

We offer a range of adjustment factor schemes that reward students for academic performance and extra-curricular achievements. These schemes also take into account a range of personal and educational disadvantages that may have affected your studies.

HSC Plus
This scheme rewards students who perform well in Year 12 subjects that are relevant to their preferred UNSW degree. You may be awarded up to five points.

Elite Athletes, Performers and Leaders (EAPL)
This program recognises achievements in the areas of sport, academia, leadership and music at an elite level. You may be eligible for up to five points.

Educational Access Scheme (EAS)
Factors such as illness, financial hardship, language difficulties or attending a particular school can mean you don't always get the best possible marks in Years 11 and 12. If one of these situations applies to you, submit an application for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) via UAC. Eligible students can receive between 1 and 10 points towards their chosen UNSW degree.

Admission pathways

The Faculty of Engineering Admission Scheme (FEAS) is a possible alternative admission pathway for the admission of domestic undergraduate students to UNSW Faculty of Engineering degree programs, including the BSc Computer Science and the BSc Food Science (Hons), who do not meet the published Guaranteed Entry selection rank. Gateway Admission Pathway
This scheme is open to students in Years 11 and 12 who attend Gateway schools. It significantly adjusts the ATAR requirements for your preferred UNSW degree and provides you with an early conditional offer to UNSW.

Entry programs for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
We offer entry programs for Indigenous Australians, including the Indigenous Preparatory Programs and the Indigenous Admission Scheme (IAS). The entry pathway program you apply for will depend on the degree you want to study.

Progression requirements

Entry into the Honours program in Science is subject to academic performance and progression requirements. Students may exit the Advanced Science (Honours) program with a B Science award if they are unsuccessful in applying for entry into Honours.

English language requirements
