The Large Area Fibre Bundle Imaging PhD Top-Up Scholarship is a supplementary scholarship to be held in conjunction with a Research Training program (RTP) Stipend, University Postgraduate Award or equivalent postgraduate research scholarship. The successful applicant will receive a total scholarship package valued at $41,682pa (tax-free for full-time study) in 2017.
Working in the area of engineering, physics and optics, the Research Project involves high resolution wide band fibre bundle imaging and image relays. The project builds on existing studies investigating fibre bundle cross-talk and transmittance over lengths of a few metres. Research components include image formation and coupling into fibre bundles, fusion of multiple bundles to create super bundles, image reconstruction stabilisation and sensor coupling. This study will leverage the existing expertise within the university to develop advanced fibre bundle imaging, allowing exceptional image capture for next generation imaging systems. Applications include high resolution inspection and maintenance in difficult to reach locations, providing unparalleled imaging and enhanced decision making.
