For overseas nurses who wish expand career options within their home country. This course is flexible, part-time and online. Always related to the practice context this course is designed to further nursing knowledge and skill to enable students to provide improved patient outcomes.

Entry requirements

This course is not currently accepting applications.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (in nursing) that is recognised by UTAS processes for entry to a postgraduate course.
  • Evidence of registration to practice as a nurse in the overseas country, where there is a registration system, or equivalent in that country.
  • English Language proficiency to a level of IELTS 7.0 across all bands plus evidence they have achieved a B grade in all areas of the Occupational English Test (OET) to meet NMBA English language requirements. IELTS and OET results must not be more than 24 months old.
  • Six months of full-time registered nurse experience in nursing practice in an overseas country within the last two years.
  • Working in the area of nursing specialisation to which seeking entry.

This evidence must be endorsed by a recognised authority.

Professional Recognition

Graduates of the Graduate certificate in nursing for overseas nurses (specialty) will be awarded with a Graduate certificate by the University of Tasmania. It must be noted that professional recognition of this certificate will be in the students' home country and does NOT lead to registration as a nurse in Australia.
