About this course

Accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Master of Surgery (Cardiothoracic Surgery) provides clinicians with the knowledge and skills to apply the best available research evidence to surgical patient care, and broaden their knowledge base through a range of elective units of study.

A combination of coursework and research, this stream of the Master of Surgery is designed for those who see their future in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. You will undertake a range of core and elective coursework units complemented by a research project in cardiothoracic surgery which will be the subject of your dissertation.

As a surgery student, you will learn from highly regarded clinicians and academics at the Sydney Medical School. The knowledge you develop will complement the practical experience you can obtain through the RACS training program, and augment your research, leadership and communication skills. This course is not a qualification to practice surgery.

Our degrees are very relevant to postgraduate students who aspire to an academic or teaching hospital career, in addition to potential employers who look to the acquisition of a postgraduate degree in surgery as a desirable condition of appointment.
