About this course

Transform major challenges in disability service provision and policy. Designed for practitioners from diverse backgrounds in disability services, the Master of Health Science (Developmental Disability) develops the specialist knowledge and skills to enable you to provide high quality disability services and inform current policy. Developmental disability is a diverse group of chronic conditions which include intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy. As a health science student, you will learn from world-class leaders in the field of developmental disability studies committed to advancing health and social policy and practice solutions which enable affected individuals and their families to participate fully in society. Throughout this one and a half year degree, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues faced by people with developmental disability alongside the enhanced professional skills necessary to respond to the major challenges facing the sector. You will tackle some of the difficult questions in developmental disability, including sexuality, end-of-life issues, and parenting, as you contribute to multidisciplinary practice and understanding. With major changes to the delivery of disability services, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), there is an unprecedented demand for highly skilled practitioners who can provide disability services and inform policy. Designed for practitioners working across the medical, nursing, dental, allied health therapies, social work, behaviour science and educational professions, this degree will position you at the forefront of developmental disability research and practice.
