Course Description

Develop expertise in the conduct and assessment of clinical trials. Designed for registered nurses and health professionals, the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Trials Practice develops a comprehensive understanding of the clinical trials process, cultivating the knowledge and skills to interpret trial data, manage information systems and improve data quality.

Clinical trials are key to improving health outcomes for patients across every field of health. They are conducted in a wide range of clinical contexts, such as improving disease prevention, diagnosis, and the quality of life and psychological wellbeing of patients and their caregivers. As a clinical trials student, you will learn from leading researchers as you investigate strategies for successful study conduct, monitoring and quality assurance, develop your project management skills and explore the ethical and legal framework governing clinical trials.

During this one year degree, you will study four units on a part-time basis, combining flexible online study with two face-to-face units, usually consisting of four on-campus study days per semester. Through case studies, you will focus on trial design and the theory behind protocol development. This course will enhance your knowledge of measurement principles, statistical concepts and analytical approaches, alongside practical skills in data management.

This new and innovative postgraduate degree is an excellent opportunity for those aiming to specialise and pursue a career in clinical trials. Completion of this graduate certificate is a pathway to admission into the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Trials Research or Master of Clinical Trials Research, offered by the Sydney Medical School.
