About this course

As a professional in Community Planning and Development, you will work with communities to shape cities, towns and rural areas to create better places to live.   You will address the contemporary issues that arise in a mobile world, such as facilitating demographic change, guiding economies in transition, regulating landuse transformation, enhancing placemaking, and supporting sustainable and resilient communities to manage change and conflict in our urban form and social fabric across metropolitan, regional and rural areas.   This course aims to help you refine your critical analysis, research and communication skills in an applied practice setting so you can develop effective and creative social, spatial and environmental policy responses to the key issues we face locally, regionally and globally. The Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Community Planning and Development are specifically designed to provide education and training from sub-professional to post-professional level. The courses are designed to provide a pathway for gaining appropriate education and training and qualifications particularly for:The Graduate Certificate is a 60 credit point course which equals six months of full-time study or part-time equivalent. The Graduate Certificate  can be commenced in either semester one or semester two and subject options will reflect this. Recognising that many students study part-time, the program order and offerings can be offered flexibly and students are encouraged to contact the course coordinator to discuss options. To assist students who are in full-time employment to undertake the course, learning utilises both external study and conventional class-based delivery in block mode with a series of whole day, two or three-day sessions (some on weekends) including lectures, workshops, field visits and tutorials. Delivery is flexible and options exist for partly online subjects and for some study options at Bendigo and Melbourne campuses.
