About this course

The Master of Public Policy and Management was specifically designed for online delivery. Students can study all topics that are part of this degree online, including the final project. The course is part of our Graduate Program in Public Administration (GPPA) The GPPA is designed for the future leaders of government, non-government and private sector organisations within Australia, the region and across the world. It provides students with an understanding of an increasingly complex environment in which challenges cut across organisational, disciplinary, jurisdictional and geographic boundaries. The GPPA seeks to develop and hone the practical and critical thinking skills of students. It does this by providing a multi-disciplinary, critical and global perspective on issues, by using case studies drawn from different countries and by using such forms of interactive learning as classroom and online discussion, case studies, role plays and scenarios. The curriculum comprises a mixture of core, option and capstone topics. Students must complete the eight core topics in the various MPA degrees and a capstone topic. The capstone topics involve undertaking a professional research project that involves a longer piece of independent research. Within the capstone topic students can explore issues that are of particular interest or importance to them. The option topics allow students to expand their knowledge and understanding of specific areas of public policy and public management. The core curriculum includes topics on public policy, public management, policy analysis, governance, ethics in public administration, and research methods. Option topics include a range of specialist areas in public management and administration including financial, risk, human resource, non-government organisation and project management, program evaluation, and issues in a range of public policy areas including the environment. This program provides a broad overview of issues in public administration and management and a strong foundation in understanding, knowledge and skills in the practice of public policy.
