The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) performs a critical role in managing a range of emergencies across Western Australia. DFES is aware that many Aboriginal communities in WA are especially vulnerable to natural disasters and other emergencies. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Scholarship was established in 2014 to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to graduation and encourage them into careers such as Fire and Emergency Services. The scholarship offers a one of payment of $5,000 (pro-rata for part time study).

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

• be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
• be enrolled in an ECU unit/course related to Emergency Management and/or contributes to Aboriginal community resilience;
• be able to demonstrate Academic Performance; and
• hold an academic status of Good Standing.

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on your:

• academic performance; and
• demonstration of unit/course relating to Emergency Management and/or their contribution to Aboriginal community resilience.

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the Portal is available between application opening and closing dates.
