What did you study at the undergraduate level and when did you graduate? What are you studying now? Are you studying and working at the same time?
Currently, I am not working. I completed a Bachelor of Business Administration and I am now a fulltime international student of Master of Climate Change.
What made you decide to apply for Crawford School?
After intensive research on the particular subject that I intend to pursue, I found that Crawford is one of the top schools in the world that providing a degree on the master of climate change. I have also heard about from some of my friends that Crawford is one of the best academic institutes for public policy research. These made me decide to apply at Crawford.
How did you choose your particular further study course (compared to others)?
While I was choosing the course contents of master of climate change, mainly I was comparing which courses will help me in my future career. I have compared the course contents with other universities; however, fortunately, I found that Crawford's master of climate change contents is the best that fit with my expectation to go for further higher studies and to do research in climate change.
Were you weighing up any alternative degrees or career pathways before choosing this qualification?
Before choosing this qualification to pursue, I have weighed up my previous work experience and the knowledge I have gathered in the last three years working at different international organizations in the field of Disasters management and developing community resilience for climate change. Master in public policy administration was also in my mind. However, considering my home country context, relating to my previous work experiences, and to achieve a future career in the field of climate change, I have decided to pursue this qualification.
What was the process to get accepted into your course? What were the prerequisites?
I am studying here at the ANU, Crawford School with the Australia Awards Scholarship. So, I have directly applied for the scholarship. Prerequisites were good academic record both in bachelor and master's degree, at least two years of work experiences, demonstration how this qualification will help in my future career, and most importantly a development impact plan that how this particular subject knowledge and skills can be applied in the Bangladesh context.
What does your study involve? Can you describe a typical day at Crawford School?
My study involves from a fundamental understanding of climate change, its impacts, issues related to climate change, research, and to find some solutions for adaptations. What characteristics or skills do you hope to gain by completing your course? A typical day at Crawford is to attend a two to three hours lecture, and some days comprise to attend tutorial and to discuss with the course lecturer regarding my assignments.
What characteristics or skills do you hope to gain by completing your course?
After completing my degree program, I am assuming that I will have a sharp knowledge of climate change, issues related to it, and linking the multi-stakeholders to deal it together. Therefore, being myself as a person with a disability I am focusing on 'Inclusive Climate Action' which means climate change is affecting all; hence, we need a comprehensive approach to cope with climate change, including people with disabilities.
Will this course be beneficial in your career? Where could you or others in your position go from here? Please explain your answer.
Yes, since I want to go for further higher studies and to involve in a research career; therefore, this course will undoubtedly be beneficial for my career. Most of the people go to work at the United Nations, involves the environment focused on international organizations, and some take further research and PhD. I am also thinking to study in PhD after this degree.
What do you love the most about your course?
I love this course because it is helping to learn so many issues that I have never think of, such as gender and sanitation issues in climate change. It is helping me to critically think about the relation of several problems with climate change and as a human, what role we should play for the betterment of our planet.
What are the limitations of your course?
Most of my courses are lecture-based, but I think if there are some more fieldwork opportunities have given us, it could help us a lot. Then we could relate the theories and knowledge in the real world.
