About this course

Graduates will be able to provide leadership in the area of exercise therapy for cancer, provide ethical duty of care and support social justice by serving the dignity of the human person in accordance with Catholic Social Thought. They will be able to support the activity and continuing contribution of cancer survivors to preserve their dignity, self-esteem and potential for recovery and return to normal life. The Graduate Certificate in Exercise and Cancer aims to address key theoretical concepts of exercise and physical activity and how these can be applied in clinical settings among cancer patients and survivors. The application of exercise prescription to the management and treatment of cancer is examined in a range of contexts, with data analysis, interpretation and communication emphasised for effective practice. The course provides industry-relevant, research-led teaching of knowledge and skills that are immediately applicable to relevant contexts. The curriculum will be contemporary in addressing the ever-changing problems faced in the industry and enable creative solutions to be driven by students.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must:be an Accredited Exercise Physiologist or registered Physiotherapist orhave a postgraduate degree in exercise science (or equivalent) with relevant industry experience. An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the relevant School Committee.
